What is Gait Analysis?

Normal gait is rhythmical, alternating movements of trunk and limbs. It has reciprocal arm-swing and heel strike with increased velocity, cadence, step length.

Healthy gait is walking speed > 1.4 m/s (3.1 mph), stride length ~150 cm (59")


Decline in gait speed, cadence, and shorter step length is associated with aging.

Gait abnormalities can indicate stroke, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, or Parkinson's.

Belt Arrest

The coordinated sensor system and sophisticated algorithm used to detect your center of mass can also sense when you fall or step away, stopping the treadmill belt to protect you and those around you. This capability will augment the existing lanyard protection circuit, reducing exercise injury rates.
